September Favourites

Hi Guys and Girls,

September has been a busy, busy month. I've moved back to Cardiff for my final year in University (say wha?!). Yeah I'm old now. Verging on becoming an adult, in fact. So I do apologise for a lack of blogs, but I do promise I'm writing my review of 'The Drowning of Arthur Braxton', now I've finished it. I'm gutted it's over, It's definitely a book I'm going back again to read it. But yes, anyway, in the time I've taken to move back into my little house here, here's a few of my favourites from the month just gone.

p.s. Happy October 3rd, Mean Girls fans!

Music

'The Weird and Wonderful Marmozets' by Marmozets

I'd like to thank my wonderful (and slightly weird when we're together) friend Natalie for introducing me to Marmozets. I mentioned previously I've got back into my rockier side of my music taste, circa me age 15. While watching the Reading and Leeds Festival highlights, she told me to watch Marmozets' set. At first I thought it was pretty intense and very much up the rockier end of my musical taste's spectrum. Lo' and behold, 40 minutes goes by and we're hooked. Becca McIntyre's powerful lead vocals and amazing stage presence captivated me and I immediately put their album on my Spotify playlists.

Songs like 'Born Young and Free' and 'Move Shake Hide' portray the bands amazing music, a cross between Paramore and The Blackout. One of my personal favourites is 'Captivate You' as it shows off McIntyre's impeccable vocal talent and you can feel her raw emotion coming through your headphones. Quite a few times I've been in Tesco buying my milk and bread and nearly in tears from hearing 'Captivate You'. I'm not even sure if it's meant to be emotional but man, it gets me every time.

Film

'Pulp Fiction' by Quentin Tarantino

Considering I do a film degree, how have I not seen this movie before?! I watched this for the first time back in August and have become obsessed ever since. I have fallen in love with its outrageous and hilarious characters, it's creative and confusing non-linear narrative and amazing soundtrack. Once you decipher the scenes into an order, the film can be viewed as following two hit-men, Vince and Jules (John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson) following out orders from their boss Marcellus Wallace, including looking after a certain Mrs Wallace (Uma Thurman). The film is separated into sections, or situations such as my personal favourite 'The Bonnie Situation'. It ends in a circular narrative, rounding all our audience loose ends up to place situations into an order. Its soundtrack is to die for too, you've got to praise Tarantino for this timeless, masterpiece as he's thought about every aspect of the films elements, including an iconic dance scene, which you can see on my twitter header which is to 'You Can Never Tell' by Chuck Berry. You also can hear 'Son of a Preacher Man' by Dusty Springfield and many more classics.

If you're a film buff or not, this is a film that everyone has to see at one point. Put all your worries aside and indulge in this masterpiece.

Clothing

Urban Outfitters Denim Skirt
£29.00

All September I've been after a denim skirt, shortly after seeing Lucy Watson wearing one in many 'Made in Chelsea' episodes. I'm not one normally for an A-line skirt, and have struggled to identify my size in one as denim changes in size so much depending on brand, colour and quality. I should have guessed really to find it in Urban Outfitters, which is my favourite shop. These skirts are all on trend at the moment and I feel like I'm complete now one is in my wardrobe. I'm a fan of turtlenecks whether they're in fashion or not, so to pair it up with a denim skirt now, is the perfect Autumn/Winter outfit.

Primark's Where's Wally Pyjama's
£6.00

One thing that excites me when moving back to university is Cardiff's Primark store. 4 glorious floors of budget clothes and homeware - a students paradise! A student necessity is to also live in comfies for as long as possible, before having to leave the house. (Though we break this rule and now are used to the shop on the corner seeing our pjs). When I saw these in Primark I had to buy! A childhood book in the Hollands household was 'Where's Wally?' therefore, i bought them. I haven't looked back since. Although we've found Wally, they're still a fun edition to my pj collection and if I'm not in uni, these are rarely off.

It's a shorter one this month, but now I'm settled back at university, I'll try to post more this Autumn.
